I love this. I get it. I relate to you so much. I am 1/2 Samoan, 1/2 white. People assume so many things. Assume that I came from an economically disadvantaged background, that I'm hood, this, that and the other. It is depressing and frustrating. When I was younger, I religiously flat ironed my hair and tried to dress as Banana Republican as I could to get respect. I don't do that anymore. I do me.

This is so valuable because some people think only black women and Latinas have these experiences. And it's sad it continues and even more so, that many women of color don't realize their struggles in the working world are not because of who they are as human beings but the color of their skin or texture of their hair.

Thanks for this article Ritu, in learnt some new subtleties. The piece about sexism and racism, I struggle with that in the space I work for a while. I am glad I am not the only one who understand the intersectionality of the two. I think the hardest of these experiences, for me, are when they are from people of colour. Thanks again for this truth.

This is amazing! Thank you so much for being these issue forward, I am women of colour working in construction, I can totally relate to this. Even in airport, my Canadian passport getting microscopic check because I might be carrying fake one around. Please keep writing. Thank you.
