Exhausted from Fighting Hate? Focus on Your Personal Power

As a diversity and inclusion consultant and empowerment speaker, I fight racism, sexism, and other forms of oppression for a living. While this work is exciting, empowering, and rewarding, some days it feels more exhausting and disheartening. At times it can take quite a personal toll.

To lift myself up, and to keep myself strong to do this work, I focus on cultivating my personal power.

Personal power is different than social power. Social power an external experience, based on how society views our worth and value compared to others. But personal power is an internal experience: it’s about personal growth, self-esteem, and self-confidence.

Ultimately, cultivating personal power allows us to feel rooted, grounded, and centered as we move through the world—and even when our social power is down, our personal power will lift us up.

Watch this week’s video for more on how I cultivate personal power in my own life.
