I’m fiercely proud of being South Asian – of being a Punjabi, Brown, Sikh woman, to be exact. There are so many aspects of our culture that I respect, admire, and value. It’s a blessing to be a Brown girl.
And, at the same time, I’d be the first to tell you that there are serious issues within our communities that we must address going forward so that we can all thrive.
But it can be really hard to criticize or talk negatively about aspects of South Asian culture at times, and there’s a particular reason why that is.
