I was born of Punjabi, Sikh immigrant parents and to say that this had an impact on who I am today would be an understatement. From knowing how hard it is to deal with racism to worrying about money to understanding the importance of working really hard, I learned so much from watching my immigrant parents navigate life. It’s so hard for me to admit this – and I know now that it’s a byproduct of experiencing racialized hate myself – but I used to feel ashamed that my parents were immigrants.
But has that ever changed!!! I now feel incredibly proud to say that I’m a child of immigrants!
In this video, I talk about the impact my immigrant parents had on my life and how blessed I now feel.
