In this video, I share a practical tool that will help you be more authentic in every situation.

I’m sure you’ve now heard through many different channels that living authentically is critical for both experiencing joy in life and for experiencing overall wellbeing. So given its importance, why is it that so many of us struggle with living more authentically?

Based on my work and research, I can you that it ties back to the relentless pressure that so many of us feel to change who we are in order to be accepted by our friends and family, by our work colleagues, and more. We want to experience belonging but at times we feel like we have to change who we are to do so.

But there is a way to be more authentic even in the face of the pressure to conform.

In this video, I take you through a powerful framework I set out in my book The Authenticity Principle, which you can leverage in any situation or moment. This framework will help you to unlock your authenticity and navigate the pressure to conform in a way that feels truly empowering.

How to Silence the Gremlin — the Negative Voice — Inside Your Head https://ritubhasin.com/blog/how-to-silence-the-gremlin-inside-your-head/ Thu, 30 Apr 2020 13:00:00 +0000 https://ritu.piknikmarketing.co/2020/04/30/how-to-silence-the-gremlin-inside-your-head/ We’ve all heard that negative voice in our head that tells us, “You’re not good enough,” or “You’re not pretty enough,” or “No one likes you.” This vicious voice in our head is what I call “the gremlin”.

We’ve all heard it — that negative voice in our head that tells us, “You’re not good enough,” or “You’re not pretty enough,” or “No one likes you.” This vicious voice in your head can be a wicked force, and I call it “the gremlin”.

Have you noticed that your gremlin is working overtime right now during this moment of crisis? If so, you’re not alone! For so many of us, it’s during difficult times that the gremlin gets really out of control.

The gremlin’s grip can be so powerful, and it often shows up when our bodies are feeling more activated and when we feel more stress and tension, which is exactly where many of us are right now. Some of you may find that your gremlin is so strong that it’s ruining what limited fun moments you’re having and is even preventing you from experiencing joyful ones.

But there is good news. You can interrupt and silence the gremlin!

In this video, I talk about how you can overcome the negative messages that run through your mind in order to live a happier life and share the practical steps that will help to silence this negative self-talk so that you can feel good about yourself.

These steps have worked for both me and for people I coach who want to live more empowered lives, and I know they will work for you too!

Bad Things Happen to Good People https://ritubhasin.com/blog/bad-things-happen-to-good-people/ Thu, 23 Apr 2020 12:00:00 +0000 https://ritu.piknikmarketing.co/2020/04/23/bad-things-happen-to-good-people/ I was going through a bad breakup many years ago and was barely hanging on. I couldn’t sleep, eat or think.

The world continues to be in crisis.

Hundreds of thousands of people have contracted COVID-19, not to mention people are dying, millions have lost their jobs, tremendous social inequities are being experienced, racism is running rampant, and so much more.

So many of us are struggling and in pain, and we’re railing against the Universe, trying to uncover a reason for what’s been happening. We keep thinking, “I am a good person. Why is this happening to me?”

I’m experiencing some really tough personal and professional moments myself right now, and one thing that I’m finding to be really helpful during this difficult time is to think of what my friend Jami told me years ago, after I’d gone through a bad breakup: Bad things happen to good people.

This simple statement has stuck with me because it is so true. Bad things happen to every one of us. It’s how we perceive these obstacles and deal with them that matters.

In this video, I share how this simple message has helped me to get through difficult times — including this moment.

Feeling Miserable? Throw Yourself A Pity Party https://ritubhasin.com/blog/pity-party/ Thu, 16 Apr 2020 12:00:00 +0000 https://ritu.piknikmarketing.co/2020/04/16/feeling-miserable-throw-yourself-a-pity-party/ You’ve heard me talk a lot about the importance of gratitude and why I choose to live a life rooted in positivity. But this time, I want to talk about moments where all you want to do is to feel sorry for yourself.

You’ve probably already heard this about a million times, but we’re living through unprecedented times. Things are really difficult right now across the world, and in this moment so many of us are finding it incredibly tough to stay positive and be happy and express gratitude — and not just be miserable.

If you’ve been following my blog for a while, you know that I’m a firm believer in choosing to live a life rooted in positivity — I’m all about those positive vibes! — but I also think it’s so important to acknowledge those moments when all you want to do is feel sorry for yourself.

We all have these moments, and it’s important to know what to do when they happen. Enter what I call a “pity party”. And let me tell you, if there has ever been a time for a pity party, now would be it!

In this video, I describe what a pity party is, why it’s important to hold this type of party, and how throwing yourself a pity party will make you feel so much better.

How to Consume Social Media in a Healthy Way https://ritubhasin.com/blog/how-to-consume-social-media-in-a-healthy-way/ Thu, 09 Apr 2020 15:23:38 +0000 https://ritu.piknikmarketing.co/2020/04/09/how-to-consume-social-media-in-a-healthy-way/ In the overwhelming amount of content available, I’ve noticed that there are essentially two distinctive types: meaningful content and meaningless content.

In our new world of COVID-19 and physical distancing, I’ve been spending a lot of time on social media, and I’m sure that many of you are too. I’m inspired by those who are using social media as part of their mission to help people live better (thank you Nedra Tawwab and The Conscious Kid!), I’ve also noticed that among the overwhelming amount of content available, there’s a ton of meaningless content.

When I say meaningless content, I mean the kind of content that, even in the face of our global crisis and the trauma that so many of us are experiencing, celebrates materialism, sexually objectifies women, and reinforces unrealistic ways of being (some of us are really hurting and don’t want to take up a new hobby/learn a language/become a fitness queen right now!!). Even now in a world that has changed so much in such a short time, meaningless content feels like it’s getting far more engagement than content containing positive, substantive messages.

Before you start saying I sound like the morality police, I want to say that there is nothing wrong with caring about how you look, embracing your sexuality, or having fun. But it’s important to recognize that we have the choice not to reinforce oppression, and that we can be a part of making the world a healthier place to be — and in the process, make our lives more fulfilling.

In this video, I talk about how to consume social media in a healthy way and why what we consume matters.

Life is Both Hard and Beautiful https://ritubhasin.com/blog/life-is-both-hard-and-beautiful/ Mon, 20 Jan 2020 20:15:33 +0000 https://ritu.piknikmarketing.co/2020/01/20/life-is-both-hard-and-beautiful/ We live in a world that loves to categorize things as either/or. Too often, we forget about the “and.”

Often times we are very binary about how we live life. We fall into a way of thinking that life is either beautiful or it is hard, and we fail to see that on any given day, week, or year we can have happy moments and we can have difficult and dark moments.

We live in a world that loves to categorize things as either/or. Too often, we forget about the “and.”

Often times we are very binary about how we live life. We fall into a way of thinking that life is either beautiful or it is hard, and we fail to see that on any given day, week, or year we can have happy moments and we can have difficult and dark moments.

When we’re in the deep, difficult self-reflection process of trying to live better — what I call “doing our work” — we often uncover lessons that show us that life is both hard and beautiful. We might struggle through the difficult times, but we also have incredibly wonderful experiences. Just as we all have good and bad within us, it’s important to remember that experiences that seem to be opposites can be true at the same time.

But how can we stay grounded and anchored to the “and” throughout the range of experiences we have in life when “doing our work”?

In this video I talk about how you can reconcile the beauty and the difficulty of life and how to stay anchored in tough times.

Why It’s So Important to Stand in Your Power as a Woman – and as a Woman of Color! https://ritubhasin.com/blog/stand-in-your-power-as-a-woman-of-color/ Thu, 09 Jan 2020 13:00:00 +0000 https://ritu.piknikmarketing.co/2020/01/09/why-its-so-important-to-stand-in-your-power-as-a-woman-and-as-a-woman-of-color/ Whenever someone asks me about the concept of standing in your power (a concept I talk about a lot), one of the lyrics from Beyoncé’s album Lemonade always comes to mind.

Whenever someone asks me about the concept of standing in your power (a concept I talk about a lot), one of the lyrics from Beyoncé’s album Lemonade always comes to mind.

Sorry, I ain’t sorry.

I love the power of these words, and I often find them dancing in my head in a variety of situations, especially when I’m being underestimated for no other reason than that I’m a woman of color.

Far too often, as women, we’re told to take a back seat. Similarly, as people of color, we’re often told to take a back seat. And as women of color, well, we don’t even get a chair. We’re supposed to apologize for taking up space in this world.

But I’m done with that! Now I unapologetically stand in my power. Sorry, but I’m not sorry even one bit.

In this video, I talk about why it’s so important to embrace self-respect, cultivate self-love, and stand up for yourself and claim your place in the world.

The New Year is almost here, and you want to have a good — no, great! — year ahead. But how do you make sure that happens?

Theme your year! This is something I’ve been doing for a long time now, and I can tell you that it has really helped me.

When I say theme your year, I mean choosing to attach an overarching purpose or meaning to the coming year. One of the great things about doing this is that it will help you make better choices as you constantly strive to live in alignment with your theme. Ultimately, you will end your year feeling like it was more of a success!

The key to choosing your theme is to ensure it addresses all spheres of your life: work, personal relationships, finance, self-care, and more. When you have your theme in mind, you will make choices that are right for you.

Need help with theming your year? In this video I share my past themes and some theme ideas for 2020.

There’s a quote from one of my favorite books, Paulo Coehlo’s The Alchemist, that I love. He says, “When you want something, all of the universe conspires in helping you achieve it.”

I love this quote because it makes me feel inspired, hopeful, and supported on my life journey. But I also believe that if we want the universe to help us out, we have to show the eff up!

This means showing up mentally, spiritually, and physically for what we want. It also means “doing the work” — the deep, heavy, self-reflection work that’s needed to overcome the challenges that might get in the way of our dreams.

In this video, I talk about how learning to show the eff up will help you create the life you want.
