Whenever someone asks me about the concept of standing in your power (a concept I talk about a lot), one of the lyrics from Beyoncé’s album Lemonade always comes to mind.
Sorry, I ain’t sorry.
I love the power of these words, and I often find them dancing in my head in a variety of situations, especially when I’m being underestimated for no other reason than that I’m a woman of color.
Far too often, as women, we’re told to take a back seat. Similarly, as people of color, we’re often told to take a back seat. And as women of color, well, we don’t even get a chair. We’re supposed to apologize for taking up space in this world.
But I’m done with that! Now I unapologetically stand in my power. Sorry, but I’m not sorry even one bit.
In this video, I talk about why it’s so important to embrace self-respect, cultivate self-love, and stand up for yourself and claim your place in the world.
